Penn State York Falls in Thrilling Five-Set Battle Against Penn State Hazleton on Senior Night

#7 Penn State York Volleyball battled hard against #5 Penn State Hazleton in an intense five-set match on October 16, at the Joe and Rosie Ruhl Student Community Center on the campus of Penn State York. Kyla Kolivoski (Northern York High School / Dillsburg, Pennsylvania), Makayla Dyson (South Western High School / Hanover, Pennsylvania), Whitney Smyth (Gettysburg Area High School / Gettysburg, Pennsylvania), and Jayda Simmons (South Western High School / Hanover, Pennsylvania) took the court for their Senior Night, but despite their best efforts, Penn State York fell just short with a 3-2 defeat. York came out strong, winning the first set 25-19, but Hazleton fought back, taking the second and third sets by 25-22. York responded with a dominant 25-18 win in the fourth set to force a deciding fifth. However, Hazleton prevailed, closing the match with a 15-6 victory in the final set.
The night was a celebration of the seniors’ dedication, and though they couldn’t secure the win, they look forward to hosting their last regular season game on Saturday, October 19, 2024, when they take on Penn State Lehigh Valley at 2 p.m. Next week, Penn State York Volleyball travels to Penn State Mont Alto for the Pennsylvania State University Athletix Conference (PSUAC) Quarter-Finals. The game will be livestreamed on PSU Campus Athletics Network at 7 p.m.
