Men’s Basketball Advances to Semifinal

Moving on in the playoffs! #1 East seed Penn State York defeated Penn State Hazleton, 58–46, in a Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) quarterfinal game at home on Feb. 25. Winning their fourteenth straight, Penn State York remains undefeated in the calendar year, improving to 21–5 overall, and moves on to the conference semifinals.

York was led by senior Richard Grant (York, Pa. / Susquehannock), who tallied a double-double, with 10 points and 13 rebounds. Sophomore Johnathon Gillespie (Lancaster, Pa. / Lancaster Mennonite) contributed 15 points and 3 assists, while Sahnei Day (Philadelphia, Pa. / Abraham Lincoln) scored 10 points for the home team in 23 minutes running the point off the bench.

Penn State York next hosts Penn State Greater Allegheny, the #2 seed from the West, in the semifinal round, scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday night, Feb. 28. York defeated Greater Allegheny on the road, 75–67, on Jan. 17. Grant again led the way, posting a huge line of 25 points, 10 rebounds, 3 blocks, 2 assists, and 2 steals in that regular season contest.

The winner of Friday evening's quarterfinal will go on to play in the PSUAC championship on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at the Bryce Jordan Center in State College, Pennsylvania.
