Penn State York Men's Basketball defeated Penn State Mont Alto, 81–69, in the team's final game of the regular season on Friday, Feb. 9. With their fourth win in a row, York grabs the #3 seed in the Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) playoffs and will open with a home game Wednesday, Feb. 14.
Traveling to face a Penn State Mont Alto squad playing for pride, Penn State York shot 45% from the field, 72% from the line, and played a clean game, only turning the ball over six times.
York led throughout the first half, but Mont Alto kept York's advantage to just six going into halftime. Mont Alto made a run and took a small lead six minutes into the second half, but it wouldn't last. After a few minutes of back-and-forth basketball, Joey O'Dwyer (Baltimore, Md. / Dulaney) capped off a decisive 13–0 run with his fourth 3-pointer of the night, effectively sealing the win with 3:52 to play.
For the second straight game, Penn State York had five players score in the double digits, led by Justin Luton (Baltimore, Md. / Newtown) with 16. Luton also had 11 rebounds and 3 blocks in the win. Khalil White (Cheltenham, Pa. / Cheltenham) scored 15 points while dishing out 4 assists, and O'Dwyer recorded 14 points on 4–7 shooting from distance.
Richard Grant (York, Pa. / Susquehannock) had a relatively quiet night, by his standards, shooting just 4-12 for 12 points while pulling down 7 rebounds. Derrick Hoffman (Manchester, Pa. / Northeastern) scored 11 points in 14 minutes off the bench for the second game in a row. Larry Rascoe (Harrisburg, Pa. / Susquehanna Township) scored 4 points at the line while grabbing 8 rebounds and dishing out 3 assists.
Penn State York finishes the regular season 16–7 overall, and 12–4 in the PSUAC. After accounting for tiebreakers, York receives the #3 seed for the playoffs, meaning they will host the #6 seed (TBD) on Wednesday, Feb. 14 in the first round.
