Golf’s Brent Williams Named Fritz Award Winner

Brent Williams

Penn State York Golf's Brent Williams (Northeastern / Mt. Wolf, Pennsylvania), a junior in Communication Arts and Sciences, was named the John Fritz Sportsmanship Award winner.

The recipient of the award demonstrates good sportsmanship in that he displays ethical, appropriate, polite and fair behavior while participating in athletic events and as a member of their team. The recipient shall exemplify the Penn State Values (integrity, responsibility, excellence, respect, discovery and community).

The award is named in honor of former Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) Commissioner John Fritz, who dedicated 30-plus years of service to Penn State Athletics and demonstrated these qualities.

Williams, an Army Reservist and member of Penn State York's golf team during its inaugural season, is most deserved of this award according to Coach Joe Downing.

Downing added that "in addition to his leadership experience, Brent demonstrates courtesy and grace on and off the golf course. After each round, Brent would introduce himself to the host of each outing, shake their hand, and thank them for inviting our team to participate in the event. It's those small, yet powerful acts of kindness that led Coach Keller and me to nominate Brent for this award."
