Shenango Women Split Weekend Series

Penn State Shenango had an eventful weekend on the court, dropping a hard-fought contest to Penn State York before rebounding with an impressive victory over Penn State Mont Alto.

In Friday's matchup against York, Shenango fell short, 71-65, despite a late surge in the fourth quarter. Shar'Da Williamson led the way with a double-double, scoring 15 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Hailee Aguinaga matched Williamson's scoring output with 15 points of her own while adding four rebounds and two assists. Shenango started slowly, shooting just 12.5% from the field in the first quarter, leading to a 15-point deficit by halftime. However, a spirited fourth-quarter effort, where they shot 46.2%, closed the gap, but it wasn't enough to overcome York's strong team play, highlighted by Delaney Burroughs' 23 points and 11 rebounds.

On Saturday, Shenango bounced back in dominant fashion, defeating Mont Alto 55-45. Defense and rebounding were the keys, as Shenango controlled the boards with a 46-28 advantage. Williamson again led the charge, recording her second consecutive double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds, while Azaria Bryant Franklin provided a spark off the bench with 10 points. Shenango's offense came alive in the third quarter, scoring 22 points to turn a two-point halftime lead into a decisive advantage. The team held Mont Alto to just 27.5% shooting, with strong perimeter defense limiting their opponent to 18.2% from beyond the arc.

With the split, Penn State Shenango moves to 4-5 on the season (2-2 in conference) and continues to showcase resilience and growth. They will be back on the court Wednesday as they host Hiram College at 6 PM, looking to build on their momentum from Saturday.
