Brandywine Falls In Season Finale

YORK, Pa. – Penn State York erased a 10-point deficit with 3:34 to play and defeated the Penn State Brandywine men's basketball team 75-73 during the Lions' season finale late Friday night.

Brandywine trailed 55-54 with nine minutes left, but erupted for a 17-6 surge to build a double-figure lead.

Jaden Kelly (Philadelphia, Pa./GAMP) began the run with a three-pointer and after A.J. Dreger (Newtown Square, Pa./Bonner-Prendie) sank a free throw, Joey Brusha (Abington, Pa./Abington) added a triple. Kelly tacked on a bucket at the 6:16 mark to make the count 63-57 and Colin Hockenbrock (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) scored five of the next six points, including a three-point play that capped the run, putting Brandywine on top 71-61.

Deriq Brown knocked down a triple to get York's rally started. After Johnta Dunson (Philadelphia, Pa./Freire Charter) canned a jumper, Mitch Saxton buried another triple for the hosts. Kamrin Carroll produced York's third three-pointer in less than two minutes and then tied the score at 73-all by sinking two free throws with 50 seconds on the clock.

After Brandywine came up empty offensively, Brown sank the game-winning shot, a layup with 15 seconds to play. The Lions' had one final possession, but their shot was blocked and York collected the rebound.

Hockenbrock led Brandywine's four double-figure scorers with 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds. He completed his four-year career at Brandywine as the program's sixth-leading scorer all-time with 1,137 points in 84 games.

Dunson also played his final game for the Lions, finishing with 16 points and eight boards. He ranks as the ninth-highest scorer in team history with 990 points in 101 appearances.

Kelly shot 6-of-9 from the field and tallied 14 points, while Dreger chipped in with 10.

The Lions shot 37 percent from the field and yielded just six turnovers.

Brandywine closed out the season with a record of 8-17 and an 8-11 mark in conference play.
