Mont Alto, York Advance to PSUAC Volleyball Championship; Bag Policy to Be In Effect Tuesday

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State Mont Alto and Penn State York punched their tickets to the Penn State University Athletic Conference Volleyball Championship match with different types of sweeps in their semifinal matches on Monday night at Rec Hall on the University Park, Pa. campus. The two will now face off in the championship in Rec Hall at 7 p.m. on Tuesday as they each look to redeem themselves from losses in the semifinals last year.

York got out clean against defending champs Penn State Greater Allegheny, but it wasn't easy. After winning the first set with relative ease (25-20), at least comparatively to the final two sets, York got all they could handle afterwards. Greater Allegheny came back from six points down in the second set to tie it and eventually take the lead and have an opportunity at set point. York held though, and used a late comeback to win 26-24. In the final set it was Greater Allegheny that jumped out to a big lead, up by six at one point. York rallied to tie the score and a back-and-forth set saw them clinch their spot in the championship match.

In the nightcap, Mont Alto cruised past Brandywine in straight sets, pulling away in the middle of each set to secure their spot in the finals. Mont Alto won 25-17, 25-16 and 25-11 to earn the right to play for the Lion statue. Brandywine showed bright spots in each of the first two sets, but Mont Alto's relentess attack at the net was too much as the victors cruised in the final set.

Mont Alto and York will now face off in the finals in a highly anticipated match. Both teams finished conference play undefeated at 12-0, but Mont Alto did pick up a win over York in the PSUAC Volleyball Crossover. East Player of the Year Jess Dunbar will look to lead York to its first ever Volleyball championship, while Kylie Denlinger and Gracie Vaughn will look to bring Mont Alto their first crown since 2005. Catch all of the action live on the PSU Campus Athletics Network.

For fans, please note that due to an updated configuration of Rec Hall this year the Penn State Bag Policy will be in full effect on Tuesday. Please view the attached picture for full details. Also, concessions are expected to be available (this was not initially expected). We appreciate your cooperation.
