Baseball Wins Season Series Against Penn State York

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa. – Penn State Schuylkill split their doubleheader with Penn State York on Sunday, finishing the season series 3-1.

Game One: Penn State Schuylkill 4, Penn State York 3

A double to right field in the top of the second inning gave York an early 2-0 lead. Schuylkill responded in the top of the third as consecutive doubles by RayJay Marmolejos (Wyomissing, PA / Wilson High School) and Conner Licklider (Hamburg, PA / Hamburg Area High School) gave Schuylkill their first run of the contest. A walk by Owen Zimmerman (Shoemakersville, PA / Hamburg Area High School) was followed by a home run hit by Nate Gilbert (Shoemakersville, PA / Hamburg Area High School), giving Schuylkill a total of four runs during the inning.

Following two scoreless innings, a double and a passed ball in the top of the sixth gave York two runs, evening the score at 4-4. A fielder's choice in the bottom of the sixth extended Schuylkill's lead to 5-4. Schuylkill's defense was able to contain York as they forced three outs without a score in the top of the seventh.

Licklider finished 3-4 in the first matchup with a double and two RBIs. Also hitting a double was Marmolejos who went 2-3 at plate. Gilbert's home run hit gave him three RBIs in the win.

Game Two: Penn State York 11, Penn State Schuylkill 1  

York got out to a hot start in the second contest, tallying four runs in the opening inning. Three innings passed before York earned another run following a home run hit. Schuylkill scored their first points of the contest in the bottom of the inning as Kyle Kaminski (Lodi, NJ / Saint Mary High School) walked with the bases loaded.

Three singles and a walk led to five runs for York in the top of the sixth inning. York would score once more in the top of the seventh before closing Schuylkill out in the bottom of the frame.

Zimmerman and Kaminski hit doubles while Kaminski finished with an RBI for Schuylkill.

Schuylkill (17-10 overall, 8-4 PSUAC) will return to action on Wednesday, April 10th as they travel to Christendom.
