Penn State York Wins Thriller in OT to Take PSUAC Men's Basketball Crown

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - In what seemed like a match-up destined to live up to the hype, the 2024 PSUAC Men's Basketball Championship did not disappoint. Penn State York won the title in overtime with a thrilling 77-76 victory over Penn State Greater Allegheny at the Bryce Jordan Center in University Park, Pa.

York defeated the defending champions despite trailing for much of the game, including a five point deficit at halftime. But York hopped on the backs of Deriq Brown and Quentin Wells, who finished with 19 and 18 points respectively, to tie the game at 64 and take it to overtime. Brown was clutch down the stretch, finishing the night 7-for-7 from the free throw line, all of which came in the second half and overtime.

Devin Green was a star for Greater Allegheny. With West Division Player of the Year Bryce Phillips in foul trouble for much of the game, Green took charge of the offense and poured in 32 points, including 10 of Greater Allegheny's 12 in overtime.

But ultimately it was the East Division Player of the Year, Brown, whose team would finish the job. Brown added six rebounds and a team-best three assists in 43 minutes of play. But perhaps the biggest play came at the end of overtime. Leading by one, York was defending a Greater Allegheny inbound underneath the basket. Jordan Poole caught the ball near the block and attempted an off balance shot with less than two seconds left, but Anthony Campbell soared up and swatted the ball and time expired as the celebration began.

York won the rebounding battle 42-35, in part to Phillips' absence for much of the second half. Some of those rebounds on the offensive end were huge as York held a 13-2 advantage in second chance points.

York advances to the 2024 USCAA Basketball National Championships as the PSUAC's automatic berth is awarded to its tournament champion. The USCAA Championships will be held in Richmond, Va. from March 9-14.
