Women’s Basketball Falls, 69–44, Bows Out of Playoffs

Penn State York Women's Basketball fell to #4 seed Penn State Schuylkill, 69–44, in the opening round of the Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference Playoffs, Wednesday, Feb. 14.

Penn State York, the #5 seed, again had an off-shooting night in Schuylkill Haven, yielding a similar final score to the teams' regular season meeting in January. York took care of the ball, only committing seven turnovers, but couldn't get its shots to fall and was outrebounded by Schuylkill, 51–30.

The two teams played it close through the first quarter, and Schuylkill built a small lead in the second, going into halftime up by seven points. Schuylkill's lead was up to 14 by the end of the third quarter, and when York's 3-point attempts wouldn't fall, the deficit grew insurmountable with Schuylkill scoring the final 10 points of the game.

Playing without leading scorer Emily Colon, who went down with a knee injury near the end of the regular season, Freshman Corina Rivera (Lancaster, Pennsylvania / Lancaster Catholic) led Penn State York with 13 points, while senior Karra Thomason (New Oxford, Pennsylvania / Bermudian Springs) scored 7 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in her final game as a Nittany Lion.

Penn State York can look back on the season with pride, as the team made the playoffs for the first time in four years and improved their conference record to 9–5 from 4–10 just a year ago.
