Women’s Basketball Tops Penn State Fayette, 80–70

On a night when the campus again honored former student Maddie Hill, Penn State York Women's Basketball used a dominant fourth quarter to put away Penn State Fayette, 80–70, on Friday, Jan. 19.
 
Hill was 19 when she died in June 2016 after battling cancer three times. A number of speakers shared a few words of remembrance during a ceremony between the women's and men's games of the second annual Maddie Hill Basketball Games.
 
In a close back-and-forth game in which both teams shot just above 45%, Penn State York took control two minutes into the fourth quarter. Down by four, York then poured in 25 points while only allowing Fayette to score 11 more.
 
York controlled the boards, out-rebounding Fayette 36–22, while also causing 23 turnovers.
 
Senior Karra Thomason (Bermudian Springs) went 5–5 in the fourth quarter, scoring 10 of her 16 points in the final period. Emily Colon (Lancaster Catholic) led York with 19 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals, and 2 blocks.
 
Corina Rivera (Lancaster Catholic) added 13 points, going 8–12 from the free throw line, while Charizma Johnson (West York) had 5 assists and 5 steals to go with 6 points. Kayla Miller (Hillcrest / Queens, Ny.) had a big night off the bench, scoring 13 points on 6–9 shooting, while pulling down 9 rebounds in 25 minutes of floor time.
 
Penn State York improves to 8–8 overall, and is now 4–3 in the Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference and tied for fourth place in the standings. York has a couple of tough games against teams near the top of the standings over the next week, first hosting Penn State Lehigh Valley on Tuesday evening, Jan. 23 before traveling to Penn State Beaver on Friday, Jan. 26.
