Men’s Soccer Opens Playoffs at Home Wednesday

Second-year coach Tim Weikert and his team open the Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) Men's Soccer playoffs at home on Wednesday, Oct. 25 at 4 p.m. in a quarterfinal matchup with Penn State New Kensington.

Penn State York, winners of two straight, secured the #4 seed on the last day of the regular season with a 2–1 win over Penn State Beaver. Penn State New Kensington visits as the #5 seed having won three games in a row, including a 5–2 victory over Penn State Beaver in their last regular season game. Both York and New Kensington finished the regular season with 5-3-1 records in PSUAC competition.

In their regular season matchup to open conference play on Sept. 6, Penn State York and Penn State New Kensington played to a 3–3 draw at New Kensington. Freshman Carter Miller (York, Pennsylvania / Dallastown Area High School) recorded two unassisted goals for Penn State York in the first 12 minutes of the game, while junior Casey Tober (Littlestown, Pennsylvania / Littlestown Senior High School) scored on a rebound of his own blocked penalty kick in the 87th minute. Neither team managed to score in two periods of overtime, with freshman Maskim Zingman (Minsk, Belarus / Ridgewood High School) recording three saves to preserve the tie.

Penn State York's regular season statistical leaders include Miller and his 12 goals, and freshman Carlos Robles-Flores (Mexico City / Springville High School), with nine goals to his name. Tober managed to score seven times in just eight games, and Zingman played every minute in goal throughout the regular season, recording 78 saves in 12 games.

The winner of Wednesday's quarterfinal will travel to first seed Penn State Brandywine on Saturday, Oct. 28.
