Freshman Carlos Robles-Flores (Mexico City / Springville High School) scored near the end of each half to lead Penn State York Men's Soccer to a 4-2 home win over rival Penn State Mont Alto Wednesday, Oct. 18. Penn State York now looks sure to make the playoffs, with the final regular season game against Penn State Beaver this Saturday to determine seeding.

From the start of the game, York had the bulk of the attacking opportunities. After a couple of promising chances, leading scorer Carter Miller (York, Pennsylvania / Dallastown Area High School) would get behind the defense and slot home his tenth goal of the season just four minutes into the game.

York enjoyed more sustained posession and scoring chances, including a shot from distance which crashed off the crossbar, as the first half progressed. Despite that, a breakaway goal against the run of play and a powerful strike from outside the box for Mont Alto had the home team staring at a 2-1 deficit as the end of the first half approached. With just four minutes to play in the half, York was awarded a penalty kick which Robles-Flores calmly slotted home to even the score.

After some back and forth play for much of the second half, Sashank Ravichandran (Bangalore, India / Tisb High School) put York ahead in the 78th minute and Robles-Flores sealed the win with his second goal in the 89th minute. Maksim Zingman (Minsk, Belarus / Ridgewood High School) recorded eight saves in goal.

Penn State York now sits fifth in the Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference, with a conference record of 4-3-1, and closes out the regular season at home against Penn State Beaver on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 1:00 p.m.
