Men’s Basketball Holds Off Penn State Mont Alto, 88–86

In a game of big momentum swings, Penn State York managed to hold off Penn State Mont Alto's fourth-quarter rally and came out on top, 88–86, on Friday, Jan 15.

Playing at home, York found itself down by 10 points midway through the first half before fighting back to take a 41–40 lead going into halftime. Up by 12 with 10 minutes to play, York saw its lead slowly dwindle as Mont Alto clawed its way back behind a game-high 30 points from Jalen Smith. In the end, despite going just 8–19 from the charity stripe, York was able to make just enough of its free throws to come out on top.

Junior Richard Grant (Susquehannock) led Penn State York with 26 points and 6 rebounds, on 11–17 shooting. Starters joining Grant in double figures were Khalil White (Cheltenham) with 14 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists, and Larry Rascoe (Susquehanna Township), who added 10 points while dishing out 5 assists. Justin Luton (Newtown) pulled down 13 rebounds and scored 9 points on 4–6 shooting.

Giving York a boost off the bench were Joey O'Dwyer (Dulaney), who got hot from behind the arc (4–7) for 14 points and Jordin Brown (Hanover), who scored 8 points on 2–3 shooting from distance.

With the win, Penn State York improves to 9–4 overall, and sits tied atop the Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) standings at 5–1. York travels to Penn State Schuylkill for another PSUAC tilt on Monday, Jan. 15 at 6 p.m. on Martin Luther King, Jr. day.
