Baseball Drops Game One of Doubleheader

Game 1:

Penn State York hosted Penn State Brandywine this past weekend at PeoplesBank Park, home of the York Revolution. Before the first game, seniors Kent Walker (York, Pa. / Red Lion), Alex Peters (Bel Air, Md. / Patterson Mill), Jonny Stratton (Howell, Nj. / Howell), Brady Lefever (Elizabethtown, Pa. / Elizabethtown), Brad Church (York, Pa. / York Suburban), and Cory Lytle (Bel Air Md. / Patterson Mill) were all honored for their academic and athletic careers at Penn State York.

PSU York would break the scoreless tie in the fourth inning when they scored all three of their runs in the game. Chad Speiser (Dillsburg, Pa. / Northern York) would hit an RBI double to centerfield which scored John "JP" Dyson (Hanover, Pa. / Southwestern). Later in the inning, both Speiser and courtesy runner Joerick Mercado (York, Pa. / Central York) would score thanks to Mercado's speed on the bases. Mercado would steal second and Speiser would score on the play thanks to a throwing error by the catcher, advancing Mercado to third. Peters would then reach base and purposefully get in a rundown, allowing Mercado to steal home and give PSU York a 3-0 lead before PSU Brandywine recorded the third out of the inning on the rundown with Peters.

Brendon Delridge (York, Pa. / York Suburban) was tremendous on the mound for PSU York. Delridge threw five scoreless innings before allowing two runs to PSU Brandywine in the sixth-inning. However, PSU York took a 3-2 lead into the last inning. After six innings, Delridge would come out of the game and Peters looked to record the save in the last inning. Delridge pitched six innings, allowing just five hits, two runs (two earned), three walks, and struck out three.

PSU Brandywine put together an eight run seventh-inning on nine hits, including one inside the park home run. Entering the bottom half of the seventh, PSU York trailed 10-3 and was unable to spark a comeback. The loss dropped PSU York to 7-8 overall and 5-6 in the PSUAC. Meanwhile, PSU Brandywine improved to 14-14 overall and 6-5 in the PSUAC.

Game two would begin shortly after the completion of game one and PSU York would look to avoid being swept in the three game series by PSU Brandywine.
