Baseball Completes Sweep of Penn State Scranton

Game 3:

Penn State York traveled to Penn State Scranton on Tuesday afternoon. Penn State York found themselves trailing early in the contest. Penn State Scranton scored four runs (one earned) in the home half of the second-inning after a pair of errors by Penn State York's infield. Kent Walker (York, Pa. / Red Lion) only lasted 1 2/3 innings on the mound for Penn State York while allowing two hits, three walks, four runs (one earned) and hitting two batters. Alex Peters (Bel Air, Md. / Patterson Mill) came in relief for Walker and recorded the final out of the second-inning for Penn State York.

Penn State York would quickly respond in the Top of the 3rd, scoring eight runs of their own. Brendon Delridge (York, Pa. / York Suburban) would start the rally with a two-run double plating Joerick Mercado (York, Pa. / Central York) and Austin Lehman (Millersburg, Pa. / Millersburg Area). Alex Peters would then hit another two-run double in the frame for Penn State York, tying the score at 4-4. Penn State York would then load the bases and score their next three runs on walks and a fourth via hit by pitch. Penn State York extended their lead to 8-4 by the time Penn State Scranton worked out of the jam. 

In the Bottom of the 3rd, Penn State Scranton would scratch across two runs of their own thanks to an RBI triple and RBI single in the inning. Penn State York kept the lead, but Penn State Scranton made the game 8-6 heading into the fourth inning. 

In the Top of the 5th, Jackie Barlow (Manchester, Md. / Manchester Valley) would record an RBI on a sacrifice fly that would score Cory Lytle (Bel Air, Md. / Patterson Mill) and extend Penn State York's lead to 9-6. Penn State Scranton would quickly respond with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning as Vaccaro's RBI single reduced Penn State Scranton's deficit to just two runs.

After a scoreless Top of the 6th, Penn State Scranton would continue to chip away at the deficit in the bottom half of the inning. Seidita would hit a solo homerun off of Peters, making the game 9-8 in favor of Penn State York. 

In the Top of the 7th, Penn State York would respond with one run in the inning. Delridge would continue his tear at the plate, knocking in Mercado with an RBI single, increasing the lead to 10-8.

Avery Penson (York, Pa. / York Suburban) would come in relief for Peters in the home half of the seventh. Peters finished the day throwing 4 1/3 innings while allowing seven hits, four runs (four earned), two walks, and four strikeouts. Penson would throw a scoreless inning of relief in the seventh.

In the Top of the 8th, Delridge would continue his impressive day at the plate by hitting a three-run homerun, giving Penn State York a 13-8 lead over Penn State Scranton. Alex Peters would follow that up just two batters later by scoring Brad Church (York, Pa. / York Suburban) with an RBI single. Penn State York held a 14-8 lead over Penn State Scranton, but in the home half of the eighth inning Penn State Scranton would score two of their own, making the game 14-10. 

The slug fest would continue into the ninth inning. Penn State York would increase their lead to 15-10 thanks to a Brady Lefever (Elizabethtown, Pa. / Elizabethtown) single that would plate John "JP" Dyson (Hanover, Pa. / Southwestern). Dyson finished the contest with two base hits, three walks, two runs, and two stolen bases. 

Penson would throw a scoreless ninth inning, securing the victory for Penn State York. On the mound, Peters picked up the win in relief. Delridge led Penn State York at the plate, going 3-3 with a double, homerun, six RBI's, three walks, and two stolen bases. Eleven different players recorded a stolen base for Penn State York in the victory. 

Penn State York improves to 3-0 in the PSUAC and 5-1 overall. Penn State York will be back in action on Friday, March 29th at Penn State Schuylkill. First pitch scheduled for 2:00PM.
