Penn State Wilkes-Barre Downs Baseball in 3-Game Series

Penn State Wilkes-Barre got the better of Penn State York Baseball, taking all three games in the two-day home-and-away series April 6–7.

In the nine-inning game in York on Friday, April 6, Penn State York turned five hits and eight walks into five runs, but couldn't stop Wilkes-Barre's hit parade as the visitors reached base 19 times on 17 hits and 2 walks. Wilkes-Barre took the lead with a three-run fourth inning, and never looked back, ultimately winning 8–5.

Logan Miller (Spring Grove, Pennsylvania / Spring Grove) went 2–5 with a run batted in to lead York's offense on Friday, while Alex Peters took the loss on the mound, giving up three earned runs in five innings of work.

In the first seven-inning game of Saturday's double-header at Penn State Wilkes-Barre, the home team's pitchers managed to spread out nine York hits, avoiding big innings and giving up just four runs. Levi Stein (York, Pennsylvania / York Suburban) went the distance for York and took the loss, giving up 13 hits and 6 earned runs in 6 innings. Stein mostly avoided trouble, but a bases loaded double in the third inning propelled Wilkes-Barre to the 6–4 win.

Miller again lead the York offense, going 2–3 with a walk and 2 runs batted in. The freshman is 15–35 on the young season, good for a .429 batting average, with 3 doubles, 5 walks, and 8 runs batted in.

In the final game of the series, the Penn State York offense went cold, managing just four hits in the seven-inning game. A Cory Lytle (Bel Air, Maryland / Patterson Mill) run-scoring ground out in the fifth was all the offense York could generate in the 8–1 loss. Kent Walker (York, Pennsylvania / Red Lion) held Wilkes-Barre to six hits, but four walks and six team errors doomed York.

Penn State York next travels to take on Penn State Brandywine at Maplezone in Aston, Pennsylvania at 6pm on Thursday, April 12. The teams return to Shryock Field in York for a double-header Saturday, April 14, with the first game scheduled for 2pm.
