Brandywine Wraps Up Conference Slate With Split

YORK, Pa. – Penn State Brandywine rolled to a 17-5 victory in the opener, but Penn State York forced a split of the doubleheader by winning game two 5-1 as the teams wrapped up Penn State University Athletic Conference baseball play Friday afternoon at WellSpan Park.

Game One: Penn State Brandywine 17, Penn State York 5

Ryan Snyder (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) fueled the offense with five hits and five runs batted in and Brandywine scored during six-of-seven innings to claim game one.

Snyder singled four times, doubled and stole a base, while Shawn Webb (Drexel Hill, Pa./Bonner-Prendie) posted three hits and three runs scored and Toby Skeans (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island) drove in three runs and crossed home three times.

Brandywine broke a 1-1 tie by scoring six times during the third inning. Webb knocked in two runs with a bases-loaded single and Snyder followed by doubling in a pair of runs.

Sam Benvignati (Aston, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) added two more runs with a base hit in the fourth, while an error and Cam Baughman's (Oxford, Pa./Oxford) sacrifice fly tacked on a pair of markers one frame later.

Snyder and Skeans accounted for all of the run scoring during the final two innings. Skeans doubled in Ryan Brown (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) in the sixth and knocked in two more runs in the seventh, while Snyder produced run-scoring singles during each inning.

Michael Govan (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown) pitched the first four innings, striking out one to earn the win. Kaleb Merendino (Glen Mills, Pa./Penncrest) tossed 2.2 scoreless innings in relief without allowing a hit.

Game Two: Penn State York 5, Penn State Brandywine 1

York scored three times during the first inning and won the nightcap by a 5-1 count.

Snyder added two more hits for a seven-hit day and scored the Lions' lone run during the sixth inning. He crossed home following a double from Owen Lawton (Glenmoore, Pa./Downingtown East).

Josh Hess (Panama City, Fla./Arnold) took the loss on the mound after yielding three earned runs. Jack Johnston (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) went 5.0 innings in relief, allowing two runs (one earned) on one hit, while striking out one. Ty Coccia (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the sixth to fire a scoreless frame.

Brandywine (22-12, 15-5 PSUAC) closes out the regular season Monday with a doubleheader at Rosemont beginning at 3:30 PM.
